i want to be hungry

and yes i know that is not something hard for me to be. but keep the brain on as we keep going.

there are a few feelings in this life that separate themselves from all the other feelings. now i'm only going off stuff i have actually experienced so my answers would be limited. but off the top of my head, i automatically think of two instances: 1) after holding it, relieving the body of waste material (#1 or #2) and 2) the 10 seconds after eating a full meal (most likely a Mary Kemper thanksgiving meal).

yeah i know, random.

but think about it, other than things like "true love" or sex, you really can't get any better. i can remember car rides where i had to pee so bad i thought my eyes had turned yellow. but man after i went and drained myself, you almost feel like fainting or that whole tingling up your spine thing. you almost make the "o" face. but lets stick with the hunger feeling for know.

it is really easy to know when you are hungry, right?

your body lets you know when it wants food, and will even make noises if you don't listen to it. now it is not that you will die if you don't eat, but it is a necessary part in continuing existing. so once you fill yourself, the body thanks you by sending hormones throughout your body of how content and happy it is. WHAT A FEELING!

one thing that passed through my mind recently was how much i have not heard others talk about being spiritually hungry. i would think that is something that would be a constant reminder for us who believe all that Jesus said He is.

i was taught as a youngster to always seek first God's kingdom than anything else i desire (my kingdom). now that i am older, i know the importance of why people told me this. you need to long for the things that will last, rather than xbox's that break or money that looses value every time gas goes up in price.

in one of the most clearest of Jesus' teaching times (sitting on the "grass" ;), He told all who are listening to Him to look to the immortal parts of life (being kind-hearted, humble, merciful, rather than greedy prideful, or self seeking). but stuck in the middle of this decently long list, there is one interesting line.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled"

hummina hummina WHAT??? hunger for righteousness? what the heck man, what are you yappin about J-man?! maybe there was some "grass" there. obviously not. this was a specific doctrine that He wanted to instill in all of followed, in all who believed.

what he says is that it is good and all to be all the other things on the list, but your drive, your nutrition, your fuel, your spiritual cashew chicken needs to be righteousness, that being God's will. He says we need to constantly live off of it, to be longing for it as though we starving to eat.

interesting. . . ok God, i'm on board. i gotcha, but . . . . . .

it aint easy, is it? we don't have a daily reminder that hits us at least three times a day (or for me, 18 times a day) that tells our conscious, "hey you, you're hungry." nothing in our physical body notifies us of our spiritual need. matter of fact, when we feel we don't need to be hungry for anything spiritual or anything from God, that's when we most likely need it.

so i guess we need to look at ourselves and see what is feeding us. what is nurturing us. are we hungry for things that we control, things we accrue. if so, our life is not living all it is meant to be. Jesus knows what He is talking about, He ain't just blowing smoke. this is meant for the health of our whole body, because as we live off of God and things from Him, the more we will not need the things that continually let us down, disappoint us, or cause us grief.

what are you hungry for?
