. . . . and God is my moon.

i love this picture, and also very appropriate
for these combined subjects.
for these combined subjects.
buckle up, this one will be a long one.
i have always used analogies to try to explain how i feel or what i am thinking, because the words i use usually suck. that's why i give Jesus a lot of props, b/c not only did he use examples of everyone's lifestyle, but those 2000 years later still rings true for us.
so blah blah blah, here's what i'm getting at. . .
i have always been intrigued by the stars; so unknown, so mysterious, so powerful, so awesome. and to me, the climax of that is the sun (i know you thought the moon would be right here, well, just wait). the sun, the celestial body that gives us life, light, warmth, and we depend on it for everything we do, everyday we wake up to breathe. without it, it is dark, cold, empty, lonely (mainly because people aren't around because we are all DEAD!) i mean that is so crazy to think about. the analogy of the sun and the Son is well known, and well used. but that is not the extent for me, because my connection is not necessarily described by that analogy.
so like my title says, God is my moon. here is what i mean:
have you ever just stared at the moon and just wonder about it. like the fact that a human actually walked upon its surface. that people throughout the centuries, different cultures spread throughout the world have been staring at it for thousands and thousands of years and stared in amazement just as you do on a clear, cloudless night. crazy huh?
that's what i think. even those that touched it could not fully grasp it and breathe in its essence, for if they did that on their own power and own natural abilities, they would die for the moon's surface would consume them, leave them breathless because it would to much for them to experience in all.
God seems exactly like that rocky body that surrounds us, encircles us and that subtly adds to our existence (tides, calenders, eclipses, etc.). at the same time, there are some nights that the moon looks so huge, so bright, that you can see every crack, crater and every characteristic of its face, even so close that you could reach up and touch it. but then there are also some nights (or weeks as it seems to be for me) where it is so faint, so far away that it doesn't even seem to be there.
and i hear stories of how men long ago reached the pinnacle of touching, living and seeing the "moon" up close. it seems so long ago that now it seems to be only myth. it seems like no matter what i do, that i could never reach that point where only the few privileged where allowed to take part in. even those who took the time to stare with intent at its face and write down to describe its characteristics to others, my eyes will never see it the same way they did.
it looks so perfect, so round, it protects us, it orbits us, is always next to us whether we choose to see it or not. through the day and night, it sits in the sky looking down on us even though we rarely look up to notice its gaze. we take it for granted, all the things it helps with, the effects of its daily path, or even how unique we are with a such a large moon. [Quote:"The Earth:moon size ratio is quite small in comparison to ratios of most other planet:moon systems (for most planets in our Solar System, the moons are much smaller in comparison to the planet and have less of an effect on the planet)"]
next time you notice the moon, let it remind you of the passionate, personal God who resides around us, looking down over us, protecting us, affecting us even when we don't notice it, and may it remind you to give Him more attention, to strive to connect with Him, or may it even be, to touch His face.
