God of the small

i always want God to be present to me in amazing, catastrophic events, like supernovas, and miraculous catches of fish, or turning water into wine. but if you only look for God in these amazing things, you may be lucky enough to witness something of this caliber ONCE in your life, but most likely you miss out on the thing you desire the most.
instead, look for God in the little things. i was at the car mechanics yesterday, waiting impatiently for my car to get fixed, so instead of spending money at best buy, or rotting away in a waiting room, i decided to lay down on the grass outside. there i saw amazing things.
as 'jimi thing' gets done playing, i look down to what i thought was an ant at the top of a blade of grass, but as i stared at it, i notice that it was a tiny spider. it was spindling a web there among the towering blades of grass in comparison to this miniature arachnid. if you have never had the privileged of watching a spider lay out a web, you have missed out. i ended up staring at this thing work itself continually, gliding on invisible strings between each green swaying foundation, letting itself be blown by the wind to the next anchor point. It works so diligently, barely ever stopping and producing an amazing feat of architecture which if you did not know, they rip down every night and consume there own web to keep the protein. crazy. . . .
then i look up and see a man in the distance walking his dog with a bag in his hand. he is a heavy set man, wearing dark shades with shorts and a t-shirt on. but as he gets closer, i notice something quite unique, he was not walking his dog, his dog was walking him. he is blind. and it was all i could do but to stare at this dog, this creature who we consider inferior, dumb, friendly, but unintelligent in comparison to us. i watched how at each intersection, the dog knew to stop, look for oncoming projectiles that could harm it or its master, how when it was safe would speed up or slow down to help its master get home. i think of a dog as a friend, as something fun to play with, make fun of, or just entertainment, but what does that man think of when he thinks of his dog. that dog protects, leads, provides direction, without that dog, he would not be able to live, interact, or even go to the store by himself.
the dog gives him life.
amazing, a creature that is indoubtably created by an Awesome Painter who can create something so simple, yet so complex that even now in this day and age of technology, inventions and innovations, a well trained dog can be the best thing for a man to have.
God has given so many little things that in reality aren't so little, yet we don't give enough time to see the complexity and the fingerprint of a Creator in each individual thing. i encourage you to take time to look for those little things around you that can still amaze you and me, especially those that captivate the attention of someone like me who gets sidetracked by the shiny things of this world. look for God in them, cause one thing i promise you, His fingerprint is there.
